This special program marks a child’s first major step to adulthood—the transition from being dependent on one’s parents to gaining confidence as a contributing member of society, taking on greater responsibility within the family and the community.

Children will be introduced to their potential as compassionate human beings—ones who face the events of life, big and small, with open hearts, inquisitiveness and dignity.

Through sitting meditation, kyudo (Zen archery), ikebana (flower arranging), haiku, calligraphy, and other meditative arts, Rites of Passage gives children powerful tools to help them care for their own minds and emotions. These tools also empower them to relate to their internal and external worlds with confidence and gentleness. At the week’s end, this transformative program is sealed with a powerful ceremony in which the children take a lifelong vow of kindness towards themselves and others.

As the child’s role within the family changes, the entire family shifts into new roles. That’s why all parents are required to attend a one-hour parent meeting, in order to receive the tools they need to support their child’s transformation.

This program is for 8–10 year-olds (and Rites graduates who are interested in training as teachers’ helpers/mentors).

Tuition is $325 plus a $25 materials fee. Please contact Nicole at [email protected] with any questions.
