Job Opening: Publicity & Communications Manager
We are seeking a new Publicity & Communications Manager to start September 1, 2020. In this critical role, you’ll be promoting our surprisingly rich flow of classes and events as well as—alongside BSC’s staff—presenting a kind and welcoming space to all our members and visitors.
The Boulder Shambhala Center is a 40-year old meditation and cultural institution founded on the teachings of Tibetan Buddhism and Shambhala (a Himalayan wisdom tradition of dignity, bravery, and openhearted living) located in downtown Boulder, whose mission is to promote enlightened society through a meditation-based path of practice, study, and celebration.
Primary Duties:
As the Communications and Publicity Manager you’ll be promoting events by:
–Creating digital flyers and social media graphics
–Posting daily communications on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and other social media platforms
–Editing a quarterly newsletter using InDesign
–Maintaining portions of BSC’s website in WordPress
–Creating production-ready print ads for local publication
–Designing postcards for special promotions
–Working closely with the Practice and Education Director to develop copy
– Coordinating with the entire BSC Staff and our lead volunteers.
Required knowledge/ability with:
– Social Media
– MailChimp
– Canva (moderate skill)
– WordPress (moderate skill)
– Knowledge and experience in current social media trends, e.g., posting strategies, Instagram & Facebook stories, and growing social media platforms
– Writing promotional copy for traditional and social media platforms
– Experience working with the Shambhala Database a plus
Desired experience:
– InDesign, Photoshop, or Canva
– Graphic design, for both print and social media
– Maintaining a website
– Preparing ads and publications for print
– Knowledge of print production standards
– Ability to work with limited budgets in a creative, collaborative way
– Working in a team environment
– Meeting deadlines
Other:
We are most interested in hiring someone who has familiarity with Shambhala, engages a path of meditation, and values the principles of Buddhism.

Compensation:
$18/hour, 25 hours/week
