Position Open at BSC: Community Outreach Director

The Boulder Shambhala Center seeks a new Community Outreach Director. This critical role combines community-building activity; managing event and office space rentals; supervising front desk and other volunteer roles; and establishing new initiatives, such as mindfulness support for local businesses.

Rentals
Arrange contractual agreement for event rentals, including weddings and funerals. Interface with organizations that are interested in hosting gatherings and/or offering mindfulness tools to their employees. Advertise and negotiate leases for office space in BSC’s building.

Community Events
Plan and implement four seasonal community events, as well as periodic social engagement and interfaith programs, and support the Membership Coordinator with an annual membership drive.

Gift Store
Establish and run BSC’s new gift store.

Supervision
Hire, train and supervise front desk support as needed. Provide guidance to satellite staff (long-term volunteer positions).

Special Projects
Support special projects at the Executive Director’s discretion, such as fundraising, grant proposals, social action, internships, data gathering and surveys.

This position reports to the Executive Director.

Desired Background—Skills
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate experience in event planning, with emphasis on team leadership and budgeting. An entrepreneurial background is helpful with contract negotiations, the gift store and bringing in new income streams. Familiarity with operational finances generally is important, along with basic Excel spreadsheet and Word skills.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate competence in detailed planning, communication, and time management skills.

The successful candidate will also be able to describe effective approaches for establishing teams and partnerships that result in sane, creative, and productive activity, as well as demonstrate excellent interpersonal communication skills.

Desired Background—Shambhala View
In order to represent Shambhala and promote the vision of the Great Eastern Sun, the successful candidate will have completed, at a minimum, the Rigden Weekend. Completion of Enlightened Society Assembly, Warrior Assembly, and/or Sacred World Assembly is a plus.

Compensation
Full-time exempt
Annual salary: $37,440
Retreat benefit: 3 weeks per year to attend Shambhala retreats; free tuition at land centers 

BSC Benefits
Free tuition to all BSC programs, except teacher honoraria when applicable
Vacation: 2 weeks per year
