Lojong, literally translated as “mind training", cultivates understanding of emptiness and brings out our compassion, the essential qualities of the bodhisattva warrior. Based on the seven points of training of the 10th century Indian teacher, Atisha Dipankara, these pithy slogans are wonderful for developing openness and skill in helping others. They are as helpful and relevant today as they were 1000 years ago.
The mind training slogans are powerful meditation tools to bring both fortunate and adverse circumstances to the path. In the process of learning to appreciate all of life's experiences as opportunities for discovery and growth, we awaken to our inherent compassion and wisdom.
In conjunction with the day-to-day application of the slogans, the contemplative practice of exchanging self for other – tonglen - is emphasized in this course. The selected readings will be from Training the Mind and Cultivating Loving-Kindness, by Chögyam Trungpa, Start Where You Are, by Pema Chodron and additional texts and readings.
Open to all: No Prerequisites
NOTE: It is suggested that students have at least some experience with meditation as well as having attended an introductory Buddhist class.
