The pith instructions of mahamudra and dzogchen are extremely consistent. Hearing these from different masters, taking them to heart personally, and applying them in meditation leads to realization. Realization is not a matter of hoping and fearing about some future attainment: It is allowing the pith instructions to change your reality, beginning right now, at this very moment. We will hear and practice instructions from Yeshe Tsögyal, Mipham the Great, Chögyam Trungpa, and Tulku Urgyen.
Vajrayana practitioners--those who have received transmission from a Kagyu or Nyingma lineage holder--may attend one or both days, and are strongly encouraged to attend the preceding weekend of deep meditation. Students who recently received transmission or abhisheka are especially invited. Each day will include meditation, instruction and discussion.
The Teacher
Richard John has been a student of Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche since 1975. He served as acharya to Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche for 20 years, and completed the first three-year group retreat at Gampo Abbey. Richard has led Buddhist and Shambhala retreats in North America, Chile and New Zealand for 40 years.
