Never straining your mind
And never relaxing your mind
Mind becomes decent.
As we shoot this arrow or play this music
The string is reasonable.
As musicians and archers, we are always heartbroken—
How can we actually sow and propagate dharma in the world?
Thanks to you, father guru,
We can perform according to your vision.
With no lute, no arrow,
Still we shoot and play.

~ Vidyadhara Trungpa Rinpoche
1980 Vajrayana Transcripts

Ashe Mahamudra is a concise and profound practice written by Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche in 2011. It brings together the teachings of the four yogas of Mahamudra with the Shambhala principles of the four dignities.

For Vajrayana students of the Vidyadhara Trungpa Rinpoche and Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche who have not received the Ashe Mahamudra practice, this program will offer the lung and basic instruction in the practice. All participants should be familiar with lungta practice and have studied The Letter of the Black Ashe.

For those who already have the practice it will be an opportunity to deepen our understanding, practice together, and appreciate our heritage.

In presenting this material, Acharya Dan Hessey will be drawing from the Vidyadhara Trungpa Rinpoche's teachings on the four yogas of Mahamudra found in the 1980 Vajrayana Transcripts, the Song of Lodrö ThayeThe Letter of the Black Ashe, and Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche's commentaries on this direct and profound practice.

We will end our weekend by performing the Sadhana of Mahamudra.

*Prerequisite: This program is for tantrika students of Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche and Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche
