The Future of Energy: Lateral Power to the People (2016)

A positive, fun film that focuses on energy solutions and the people behind the renewable energy revolution. It’s a love story about people re-imagining their relationship to the planet, and falling back in love with the Earth and each other.

The Future of Energy journeys across America to shine a light on the communities and individuals who are at the forefront of the clean energy revolution, taking practical steps to transition from fossil fuels to renewable power. Solar, wind and water could power the planet by the year 2050, according to experts in the film, substantially reducing carbon emissions. Social and political willpower is needed to make the change on a large scale. Two model towns are highlighted for their exemplary steps towards clean energy: Greensburg, Kansas, and Lancaster, California.

Fusing interdependence, international awareness, diversity, and kindness, Mindful Cinema is a gathering for Shambhala Boulder cinephiles and foodies. Welcoming new members, visitors, and committed practitioners, this group shares culinary delights and movies that explore meaningful themes, such as tradition, generosity, loyalty, forgiveness, and death. We screen films from Sundance, Cannes, and other international festivals.

A short discussion follows each film.

This summer our films are chosen for environmental themes and our concern for the planet—water, sustainable farming and food, local economy, well-being, and renewable energy.  Throughout the summer, we will also be collecting your nominations and votes for a juried selection to show one of the final nights of the festival.

We encourage infusing culture, diversity, and kindness through the dish you bring as well through the films we enjoy together.  Join us for a true potluck dinner—your offerings make it happen! In correlation with our environmental themes, we particularly encourage you to think about slow food made with fresh vegetables from a CSA, farmer’s market, or other locally-sourced, low-impact food choices with less packaging, less transport, and prepared for mindful consumption. For beverages, consider selecting biodynamic, locally cultivated wine—or a jug of iced sun tea!  Moreover, since we are celebrating regenerating a healthy environment, let us aspire to leave no trace. To support zero-waste events and an uplifted environment, the Shambhala Center provides reusable place settings, and we encourage everyone to avoid single-use plastic.

Kindly RSVP here and note in the comment section what creative, elegant dish you’d like to bring.

In a harrowing and heartening story, reluctant heroes rekindle a lost connection to our most treasured resource and revive a culture connected to seeds.
