Bodhi School implements progressive programming for young people ages 5 through 12 to experience the basic view, forms, stories and teachings of the Shambhala path. Children, particularly after the age of 8, need dharma mentors other than their parents. We want to acknowledge children as spiritual beings and give them every opportunity to discover and express their basic goodness, sanity and compassion. Bodhi School can provide them with an opportunity to experience their Shambhala Centre on their own terms, meeting their peers and having fun while discovering Shambhala culture.

This year one overarching theme we will be working with is how the rhythms of the year strengthen the integration of families and children into the larger Shambhala community, particularly through the nyida days.

This year you will see some shifts in the structure of Bodhi School. Inspired by the recent Growing Brave conference held at the Boulder Shambhala Center as well as feedback from Sangha families, we will be working to create more “whole family” oriented programing. Our monthly gatherings will be 2 hours long beginning with whole family activities for the first hour. The second hour will allow opportunities for children to play and create and for parents to practice and to connect with each other.

We are delighted to have Rachel Steele as this years Bodhi School director.  Rachel holds an MA in Contemplative Education from Naropa University and taught at Alaya Preschool for over 15 years. Supporting opportunities for children and families to connect with the Shambhala teachings is a passion for her and she has been involved in family programing in Shambhala since 2002. She lives in Boulder Co with her husband Brian and daughter Wini and is currently fortunate to be a full time mom.
