Online Community Meeting—A Letter from Jessie Friedman, Executive Director
Dear Boulder Shambhala Community,
I’ve been asked to write a little bit about our Online Community Meeting this Sunday May 24th.
Why now? What would I like to accomplish? I will attempt to address some of these questions.
I know that many in the community don’t know me well or have yet to meet me. Pandemic or not, I felt it was about time for those who wish to know more about the Director of the Boulder Shambhala Center to hear from me ‘in person,’ at least in the way that we can provide these days, i.e., virtually. COVID hitting the US fast and furiously within two weeks of taking my oath as Director diverted my ‘best laid plans’ and vision toward an immediate pivot into going virtual with all of our programs—which our inconceivably wonderful staff has made possible.
Well, we’re in the swing of our virtual reality now, and it is occurring to me that we can continue to develop, grow, and deepen as a community regardless of, yet at the same time acutely cognizant of, this pandemic. It seems to me that is what warriors would do. My aspiration is that our meeting on May 24th marks the first of monthly convening of our Boulder Shambhala sangha, and that we get back to enacting a community in which we communicate with one another regularly.
In light of this, I would like the community to become aware of the vision that was formulating for me as I stepped into this role. As I’ve mentioned, this pandemic does not have to stop us in our tracks. What do I make of the last two years? What is the present state of our sangha, and where do we go from here? How? Let’s start the conversation, and then keep it going, together. I look forward to sharing my thoughts with many of you on Sunday as well as hearing your questions and also your reflections on what the Boulder Shambhala community means to you.
